who is it for

As environmental musicians, who do we write music for? Is it for some segment of society, some public who listens and responds? Is it for nature, whose ear is impossible to see or comprehend? Or is it for itself, some act of imagination or hope that seems elusive in the "real world," but can enjoy a fuller scope as a song? I consider myself very much a beginner in the world of songwriting, and the answers to these questions are not at all clear to me. The boundaries between human and nature, between reality and dream, between the listener and the listened, feel very uncertain in the practice of environmental music. Sometimes I am not sure if we even know who we are, not really. And sometimes questions reach deeper than answers.
